Dual Drive Bike/Shaft Drive Hand and Foot Powered Bike

It was over a year ago when I first  applied for patents and started this bike project.

The most challenging part was and is…  trying to find “off the shelf” gears that would give me the proper gear ratio for hand propulsion.  They pretty much don’t exist as standard sizes that would work for my front wheel drive application.  In order to get decent pricing you have to go overseas and order 500 gear sets at a time.

While waiting for parts I have re-developed a pretty cool looking chain version which I intend to add to my dual drive bike line. This chain version I can start selling soon.

I have several working Prototypes now and intend to  get the “crowd funding video” completed this month. You can’t rush into this project. It takes some time to develop and through trial and error the perfect set-up is achievable.  I have been working with cad design guys I found on ODesk. That site is a lifesaver!

The first truly “crossfit bike”, dual drive total fitness bike, total aerobic workout!

I am getting rid of the greasy chains on my old dual drive bike. I will replace the chains with a drive shaft driven by two sets of helical gears.  The front wheel drive is powered by rotating your hands. The rear drive is pedaled by your fhttps://youtu.be/cp_TRokop2Meet as normal. The drive shaft is hidden inside the right side “dual crown” front fork. This revolutionary hand-powered system fits the head tube of any bicycle and transforms it into a “total fitness bike” that the crossfit athletes of America should embrace.

020As you can see,  “No Chains” on the front wheel drive! I’ve run the drive shaft down inside the right side dual crown front fork and attached the unit to an inexpensive girls’ Bojon Beach Cruiser. I will attach it to several different styles of bicycles and post the pictures as they happen. The hand driven front wheel drive will fit the head tube of any bicycle! The possibilities are limitless! I am probably 6 months away from full scale production. I sent in my “Shark Tank” application…lol

Update: September 27, 2013

Finished my Utility Patent Application last week and filed it with USPTO! Been playing with the video camera and movie editing programs. Have to say the faster computers render movies very easily.

Major breakthrough this week! Purchased a Novatec rear hub and modified my bevel gear to fit the hub and it works great! Now I can get the ball rolling with a newer prototype with a 4 1/2 to one gear ratio for the front shaft drive.

Dualdrive Bicycle working Prototype…done deal!

Update: June 3, 2013

The very first front wheel drive prototype is finished and attached  to a girls beach cruiser.  It was the only bike I could find in a local store with a 1″ headset….they are all 1 1/8.  My dual crown front fork that I have been transforming came with a one inch steer tube. I will post some pictures shortly and some video!  I am truly excited about how well the gears and housing ended up coming together with the dual crown front fork set up. I am not an engineer by any stretch but I do know what can be made in a machine shop….almost anything! If you can imagine it and draw it, it can be built!

Update: May 24, 2013……

Things are looking good. I received all my parts last week from the CNC shop. There were some minor challenges, but the first ever shaft drive prototype is ready for trial. I will be purchasing a 3 speed Bojon Beach cruiser and installing the new front wheel drive. It is analogous to a caterpillar turning into a butterfly. I am putting wings on the traditional bicycle….not really but close!  lol

Well, I picked up all my parts from the machine shop that said “I won’t be able to get to your project for 3-4 weeks! ” I went driving around Dixie Hwy. and 44 Street (Fort Lauderdale) area and found a machine shop that is working out much better. I gave them one job of cutting a gear to fit the Shimano hub and it was ready for pick up in two days.  So, things should be moving along at a much faster pace now! They need the business and I need parts made in a timely fashion, so it is mutually beneficial.

I am really lucking out with PVC Tees and how inserts and end caps work and work well with perfect fits for my bearings and end caps with holes that are perfect for the top axle! This will save me a ton of money for the casings and also enable me to get the measurements down pat for future mold making out of aluminum.  The anodized top case will be sharp looking sitting on top of the dual crown front  forks. I am going to match the colors of the top case with that of the 7 speed Shimano front hub! Can’t wait!

Not all Peaches and Cream….. Dual Drive Bike Project

So, its pretty much a nightmare adding an aftermarket wifi card to your desktop.  Don’t believe their plug and play lies!  I am some distance from my hard wire incoming set up for my other older slower dell desktop. It’s roughly 90 feet, a full length volley ball court and a half. My HP vista laptop works anywhere in the house….not the new Asus  desktop. I am now going to have to hard wire it because am tired of dealing with intermittent wifi network adapter plug ins.

The goal was to buy  the latest and greatest so I could render a freakin video or “movie” for a crowd=funding video for the dual drive bike project. Moral of the story don’t count on your in house wifi network to work.  Oh, and buy a desk from faith farm…..they are already put together!

The drift is south my friends.         http://www.dualdrivebike.com    ….  need a cad cam guy

Monday Blues..

I spent some time in the garage this morning and came up with some PVC tees that will assist in getting the shaft drive housing completed. Two, 2 inch tees with a 1.25 inch threaded reduction drop down will fit the dual crown forks nicely. Add the axle and a couple hand cranks and I’ll be in business.

I bit the bullet and bought an ASUS Dest top so I can get my damn movie “published” or rendered. My lab top keeps crashing with windows movie maker. Inside the ASUS….1.7 Pentium, 3.4 GGHRZ, and 12 gigs of DDR RAM with 2 gigs dedicated for the nvidia graphics board.  ooh la la

So, the past few days have been quite frustrating to say the least! Trying to render or publish a movie that I made in windows movie maker is pretty much impossible. Making the movie and adding clips, transitions and music was the fun part. My son then sends me his old G5 MAC desktop. The fun times began. The computer would not fire up at all. Not being familiar with apple I dropped the computer off at my wife’ s work-place. They are apple experts. It fired right up of course and while it was there the G5 worked perfectly. I took it home and got nothing again. After six hours into this mess I gave up. The water cooled area (what is it a car?) was found to be leaking for a long time and is and was causing intermittent electrical problems! Nice!

So I’m off to the store to purchase an Acer speedy desktop from Best buy! Wish me luck!

I am trying to get a “movie” published for the video needed for one of the crowd-funding platforms to raise money for my new crossfit bicycle. see http://www.dualdrivebike.com
